Some people love Android phones but want an iPad for its 10.2-inch screen and app library. The Free Government Phone and iPad Combo gives you both: a Galaxy S24, Z Flip or Z Fold paired with an iPad 7th Gen or iPad 9th Gen. Both devices are free and refurbished for eligible customers who enroll in Combo Wireless service.
Choose your phone and your iPad
You pick one Galaxy phone and one iPad model, subject to availability.

| Connector | Lightning | Lightning |
| Software | Does not run the newest iPadOS releases | — |
| Front camera | — | 12MP ultra wide with Center Stage |
| Best for | Web browsing, video and reading on a large Apple screen | Video calls, classes and apps with longer iPadOS support |
| Price (eligible) | Free, refurbished | Free, refurbished |
Which iPad should you pick? The iPad 9th Gen has a faster A13 Bionic chip, a 12MP ultra wide front camera with Center Stage (which keeps you centered on video calls), and it receives newer iPadOS versions than the 7th Gen. The iPad 7th Gen still handles browsing, video, reading and most everyday apps well, but it no longer runs the newest iPadOS releases, so some new apps may eventually stop supporting it.
For the phone, see the Galaxy S24, Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold pages for full details.
Do an Android phone and an iPad work well together?
Yes, with a few things to know. Cross-platform apps make the pairing smooth, but Apple-only features stay on the iPad.
| Task | Works across Galaxy + iPad? | How |
|---|---|---|
| Email, calendar, contacts | Yes | Sign in to the same Google account on both |
| Photos | Yes | Google Photos backs up from the phone and shows on the iPad |
| Documents | Yes | Google Drive, Docs or Microsoft 365 apps on both |
| Video calls | Yes | WhatsApp, Zoom, Google Meet; FaceTime links also open on Android in a browser |
| Internet on the go | Yes | Turn on the Galaxy phone's mobile hotspot and join it from the iPad |
| iMessage and AirDrop | iPad only | These Apple features don't reach Android phones |
If you want iMessage and AirDrop on both devices, the iPhone and iPad combo is the better choice.
Why choose an iPad over the Galaxy Tab A9?
- Bigger screen. 10.2 inches versus 8.7 inches on the Tab A9, which helps with split-screen and reading.
- Apple Pencil support. Both iPads work with the 1st-generation Apple Pencil for notes and drawing (pencil not included).
- Keyboard support. Both support Apple's Smart Keyboard connector, handy for writing assignments.
If you prefer a lighter, one-hand tablet, the phone and tablet combo with the Tab A9 may suit you better.
