Qualifying data
A data allowance that meets the Lifeline program's service standards.
Your service runs on the T-Mobile network. Before you enroll, we provide your exact plan details, including your data allowance and monthly cost after your Lifeline discount.
How the Lifeline discount is applied
Lifeline isn't a payment to you. It's applied as a discount to your monthly service. For most customers the discount is up to $9.25 a month; on Tribal lands it's up to $34.25. The FCC sets minimum service standards that Lifeline plans must meet, and your plan is built to meet them.
Maximum monthly discount applied to a qualifying service plan, not a cash payment.

Your plan comes with a device combo
Eligible customers who enroll choose one of nine device combos. The devices are free, refurbished and ship free. They're a Combo Wireless offer, separate from the Lifeline discount.
Making your data go further
Your data allowance covers everyday use. Streaming video uses the most data, so it helps to know roughly how much different activities use:
| Activity | Tip |
|---|---|
| Video streaming | The biggest data user. Netflix, for example, estimates about 1 GB per hour in standard definition and up to 3 GB per hour in HD. Stream on Wi-Fi when you can. |
| Video calls | Use Wi-Fi for long calls, especially on a tablet or laptop. |
| Hotspot for your tablet or laptop | Hotspot use draws from your plan's data allowance. Save updates and large downloads for Wi-Fi. |
| Email, messaging, maps | Relatively light, but photos and videos in chats add up. |
- Turn on Low Data Mode (iPhone) or Data Saver (Android).
- Set app stores to update only on Wi-Fi.
- Download music, maps and shows on Wi-Fi to use offline.
Keep your line active
Lifeline has a usage rule. If you don't use your service for 30 days, you'll get a 15-day notice, and the benefit ends if you still don't use it. Any call, text or data session counts.
- 130 days with no usage
Using your line at least once in 30 days (a call, text or data session) keeps it active.
- 215-day notice
Your provider must notify you and give you 15 days to use the service.
- 3Use it or lose it
If the line is still unused after the notice period, the Lifeline benefit is removed.
