Qualify through income
If no one in your household is in a qualifying program, you can still qualify if your household's gross income is at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

What counts as a household
For Lifeline, a household is everyone who lives at the same address and shares income and expenses. Roommates who pay their own way are separate households, even at the same address. Only one Lifeline benefit is allowed per household. Read the one-per-household rule explained.
Things that can prevent enrollment
- Someone in your household already receives Lifeline from another provider. You can transfer that benefit instead.
- Your identity or address can't be verified.
- Your proof document is expired, unreadable or missing required details. See documents.

Eligibility FAQs
Can I qualify if my child receives the benefit?
Yes. If your child or dependent participates in a qualifying program, your household can qualify.
Do I need a Social Security number?
The Lifeline verification process asks for the last four digits of your Social Security number or a Tribal ID number to confirm your identity. Our application form doesn't collect SSNs.
Can I qualify if I'm homeless or live in a shelter?
Yes, you can still apply. Provide the address where you receive mail and explain your situation on the application.
Does unemployment make me eligible?
Unemployment isn't a qualifying program by itself, but your total household income, including unemployment benefits, may fall under the income limit.
